Hypertension is one of the main health problems in the elderly because it increases the risk of complications such as stroke and heart disease. Non-pharmacological efforts such as consuming herbal ingredients are considered an effective, affordable, and easy alternative to help reduce blood pressure. One of the herbal plants that has potential is garlic (Allium sativum L.), which contains allicin compounds with natural vasodilator effects that can help lower blood pressure. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one group pretest-posttest approach, involving 15 respondents with hypertension in Jumantuang Village. Respondents were given boiled garlic water for seven days. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention using a digital sphygmomanometer. The results showed that the average systolic blood pressure before the administration of boiled garlic water was 165.2 mmHg and decreased to 151.0 mmHg after the intervention, with a decrease of 14.2 mmHg. Meanwhile, diastolic blood pressure decreased from 93.4 mmHg to 87.2 mmHg with a decrease of 6.2 mmHg. The Paired Sample T-Test showed a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect between before and after the administration of boiled garlic water on reducing blood pressure. Boiled garlic water is effective in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients and can be used as a non-pharmacological therapy.
Debora SitorusLam Murni Sagala

Breast cancer is one of the leading non-communicab le diseases with the highest incidence and mortality rates among women, including in Indonesia. The high mortality rate of breast cancer is largely attributed to delayed early detection. Breast Self-Examination (BSE) is a simple, low-cost, and self-performed early detection method that can be practiced from adolescence. However, the level of knowledge and awareness of adolescent girls regarding BSE remains relatively low, particularly due to the lack of structured health education in school settings. Therefore, health education is considered an important effort to improve adolescents’ knowledge and ability to perform BSE correctly. This study aimed to determine the effect of health education on the level of knowledge regarding Breast Self-Examination (BSE) among adolescent girls at SMA Kebangsaan Medan. This study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest method. The sample consisted of 45 adolescent female students selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a BSE knowledge questionnaire administered before and after the health education intervention. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that prior to the health education intervention, most respondents had a low level of knowledge about BSE. After the intervention, there was a significant improvement in knowledge levels, with the majority of respondents categorized as having good knowledge. The Wilcoxon test revealed a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of health education on increasing BSE knowledge. Health education has a significant effect on improving adolescent girls’ knowledge regarding Breast Self-Examination (BSE). Health education should be continuously integrated into school health programs as a promotive and preventive strategy for early detection of breast cancer. Further research is recommended to use a quasi-experimental design with a control group. In addition, it is necessary to add behavioral variables and demonstration assessments through observation to evaluate the consistency and skills of respondents in performing SADARI correctly.
Ronika SiregarLenny Lusia Simatupang

Hypertension is one of the most common diseases in the community. This disease is included in the group of major non-communicable diseases worldwide, which can have a significant impact on various health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, disability, and premature death. There are two approaches to lowering blood pressure in people with hypertension: pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. One approach is through complementary therapy, a foot soak using lemongrass and salt boiled water, which works through vasodilation, increased peripheral circulation, a relaxing effect, and decreased sympathetic nerve activity. This study aimed to determine the effect of a foot soak using lemongrass and salt boiled water on lowering blood pressure in people with hypertension in Sampali Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency. This study was quantitative, using a pre experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. In this design, the researchers used one intervention group. A total of 25 respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results of this study using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p <0.05), indicating a significant difference between blood pressure before and after the intervention, indicating a significant effect of foot soaks using lemongrass and salt boiled water on lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients.
Abstract

Pressure ulcers are serious complications in immobile patients that increase infection risks and healthcare costs. While nutritional status plays a vital role in tissue regeneration, malnutrition often hinders the recovery process. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between nutritional status and the healing time of pressure ulcers among immobile patients at RSUD Dr. Pirngadi. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional approach with 33 pressure ulcer patients (total sampling). Nutritional status was measured using Body Mass Index (BMI), while healing time was calculated in days. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. There was a significant correlation between nutritional status and the healing time of pressure ulcers (r=−0,581; p<0,001). The negative correlation indicates that better nutritional status is significantly associated with a shorter recovery time. Good nutritional status significantly accelerates the healing of pressure ulcers in immobile patients. Comprehensive nutritional intervention and monitoring should be an integral part of patient care management to prevent complications and expedite recovery.
Loisa TobingMhd. Taufik Daniel Hasibuan

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly shaping medical education, particularly in assessment, feedback, and clinical reasoning. This narrative review synthesizes recent evidence on the use of large language models, conversational agents, and AI-enhanced simulation in these three areas. The review highlights that AI can support educators by generating assessment materials, assisting rubric-based scoring, providing formative feedback, simulating patient encounters, and reviewing clinical reasoning documentation. These applications may help address persistent challenges in medical education, including limited faculty time, difficulty assessing higher-order reasoning, and the resource demands of high-quality simulation. However, the benefits of AI are accompanied by important risks. Concerns related to validity, bias, privacy, academic integrity, local relevance, and professional formation remain central, especially when tools developed in well-resourced and English-dominant contexts are applied in different educational and clinical settings. This review argues that AI should not be understood as a replacement for educational judgment, clinical supervision, or human relationships in medical training. Rather, AI is best positioned as a supervised educational tool that can extend the reach of good teaching when embedded in clear curricula, locally validated assessment systems, transparent governance, and faculty development programs. The central challenge for medical educators is therefore not whether AI should be used, but how it can be used responsibly while preserving the ethical, relational, and patient-centered foundations of medical education.
Erwin Handoko
